Dansko Leather Descriptions
 |
Box Leather
Box leather is ideal for workplace environments with wet, acidic, or greasy conditions. It has a smooth, clean finish with the natural irregularities removed. This leather is also referred to as "finished" or "corrected" leather. It is the easiest leather to maintain, and can be wiped clean with soap and water. Ordinary scuff marks may be touched up with shoe polish. |
 |
 |
Nubuck
Nubuck, the softest of our leathers, has a closely napped finish and a silky feel. It is the
leather of choice for rich, bright color, and is recommended for leisure use or in sandals.
Surface dirt can be removed with a damp washcloth or brush. To remove shiny marks or
more stubborn stains, try Dansko's Nubuck/Suede Bar and Brush. For maximum water and
stain protection, we recommend using Dansko's Suede and Nubuck Spray before wearing. |
 |
 |
Oiled Nubuck
Oiled Nubuck has the same closely napped, silky feel as Nubuck, but with noticeably
more oil tanned into the leather. Naturally occuring blemishes are slightly more visible
in this tannage and suggest a more rugged appearance. Scuff marks and dirt can be
removed with a stiff brush, and for maximum weather and stain protection, we
recommend using Dansko's Suede and Nubuck Spray before wearing. |
 |
 |
Oiled Leather
This is a heavily oiled, matte-finish leather with optimal pliability and moisture
resistance. It is often referred to as "distressed leather" because naturally occurring
blemishes are often visible below the surface, making it suitable for rugged, outdoor
wear. It has a pronounced pull-up, which allows surface scuffs to be easily worked out
with the fingers, while stubborn dirt can be removed with Dansko's Oiled Leather
Restorer. If weather-proofing is desired, we recommend using Dansko's Beeswax
Conditioner with lanolin. |

 |
Latigo Leather
Latigo Leather has a smooth, tight grain and a semi-gloss, aniline finish that produces a
transparent, mirrored look. To clean and maintain suppleness, we recommend using a
cream polish or neutral wax, and for maintaining shine, use a soft cotton cloth to bring
brightness back to the surface of the leather. |
 |
 |
Veg-Tan Leather
This is a glove-soft leather, finished to a rich luster. It has a lightweight, buttery softness and easily conforms to your foot. To clean and maintain shine, we recommend using a
soft cotton cloth with a neutral cream polish. |
 |
 |
Cabrio Leather
Also called "brush-off leather," cabrio offers a dressier look. The leather is dyed through, then a black top coat is brushed off to reveal the rich color and to provide shine. Cleans
easily with a damp, soft cloth. If needed, shoes can be polished to bring back shine. Be
sure to test a small area before applying colored polish. |
